Frequently Asked Questions
What should a pet sitting contract include for emergencies?
The preferred veterinarian, authorization to treat up to a set dollar amount if the owner cannot be reached, and a promise to reimburse the sitter for costs.
Who is liable if the pet gets hurt while sitting?
The sitter is liable only for harm caused by their own negligence. Injury from the pet's own behavior or accidents not caused by the sitter typically fall on the owner.
Should the owner provide medication instructions in writing?
Yes. Written dosage, timing, and administration instructions prevent errors and protect both parties if something goes wrong.
Do pet sitters need insurance?
Professional sitters should carry liability and care insurance. The contract can require proof, and it protects both the sitter and the owner.
